An American saxophonist who began performing with groups such as Charles Mingus’s in the early 1950s while also leading his own ensembles, Teo Macero later showcased his talents as a producer for Miles Davis’s works from the 1960s onward. This album, released in 1957 on Prestige, features Macero in collaboration with The Prestige Quartet, consisting of Mal Waldron (p), Teddy Charles (vb), Addison Farmer (b), and Jerry Segal (ds). Highlights include A1, an original composition by Waldron written specifically for this album, A2, where Charles’s vibraphone resonates with a melancholic sway, and B3, another Waldron composition also performed on Earthy by The Prestige All Stars that same year. A masterpiece of refined bop.
A1: Ghost Story
A2: Please Don't Go Now
