American bassist Terry Plumeri, a classical musician who studied composition under Hungarian composer Antal Dorati and composed numerous film scores, left his mark on jazz through collaborations with artists like Cannonball Adderley, Quincy Jones, Wayne Shorter, and Les McCann. In 1975, he released the acclaimed He Who Lives in Many Places, featuring Herbie Hancock. This 1978 leader album showcases his talent alongside John Abercrombie (g), Ralph Towner (g), Marc Cohen (p), and others. Highlights include the ethereal, ethnic track A1, starting with a kalimba solo and enriched by mysterious percussion and floating choral voices, and the spiritual ethnic jazz of B4, where Marc Cohen’s delicate piano and Plumeri’s vocal performance shine. The album masterfully captures a tense, atmospheric quality akin to ECM recordings, making it a standout work of spiritual jazz.
