An album released in 1967 by The New John Handy Quintet, led by alto saxophonist John Handy, who gained attention in the 1950s as part of Charles Mingus' group and developed an interest in Eastern and Indian philosophy. The lineup features Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), Pat Martino (guitar), Albert Stinson (bass), and Doug Sides (drums). The standout track, A1, is a breathtakingly lyrical rendition of Handy’s signature piece "Naima", dedicated to the late John Coltrane. Equally impressive is the epic B1, a long-form session that channels Coltrane’s influence while venturing into Albert Ayler-esque cosmic explorations. This is an absolute must-have album, highly recommended. This is US reissue in late ‘70s.
A1: Naima (In Memory of John Coltrane)
B1: Tears of Ole Miss (Anatomy of a Riot)
