The first album by Via Africa, a Johannesburg, South Africa group formed around vocalist/bassist Rene Veldsman that debuted in 1983 and disbanded after only two albums and a few singles. The group was a dubby new wave with ethnic rhythms, chants, and synthesizers, a fairly innovative style that echoed Human League and Malcolm McLaren's Bow Wow Wow. The radical lyrics were banned at the time, but Daniele Baldelli and other DJs played it at "Cosmic," which colored the Italian disco scene in the 1980s.
