An album released in 1967 by the American saxophonist Albert Ayler, who gained recognition as a pioneer of avant-garde jazz in 1960s New York. The A-side features live recordings from a quintet performance at the Village Theatre in the same year, with Joel Friedman (cello), Alan Silva (bass), Bill Folwell (bass), and Beaver Harris (drums). The B-side includes live recordings from a sextet performance at the Village Vanguard in 1966, featuring Donald Ayler (trumpet), Michael Sampson (violin), Bill Folwell (bass), Henry Grimes (bass), and Beaver Harris (drums). The album includes impressive sharp sounds from the cello and violin. The standout tracks include A1, a piece dedicated to John Coltrane with sharp sounds from the cello and violin, and B1, where an aggressive interplay unfolds around the theme of a march, showcasing Ayler's true essence. The entire album is excellently crafted with a very immersive sound.
