This is an album released in 1978 by the American saxophonist Albert Ayler, who made his name as a pioneer of avant-garde jazz in 1960s New York. It's the seventh installment of ABC Impulse!'s "The Dedication Series." Side A/B features a live performance recorded in 1967 at the Village Theatre in New York, with a sextet consisting of Don Ayler (tp), Michel Sampson (vl), Alan Silva (b), Joel Freedman (cello), and Beaver Harris (ds). Side C/D includes live recordings from the Village Vanguard in New York, with Bill Folwell (b) and Henry Grimes (b) replacing Silva and Freedman. The album features many of Ayler's renowned compositions, including "Spiri Rejoyce" and "Angels."
