Active since the 1960s and renowned for his extraordinary talent across numerous sessions, Barre Phillips is one of the most innovative bassists in the free/experimental jazz scene. This 1992 album, subtitled "Music for Bass, Percussion, and Tape," was created in collaboration with French percussionist Alain Joule, who also participated in Luc Ferrari's 1976 recordings. Half of the tracks feature tape performances by James Giroudon and Jean-Francois Estager, showcasing Phillips's pursuit of highly experimental and avant-garde jazz. Highly recommended. This is a hard to find analog release from the era when CDs became dominant.
