An album released in 1963 by Blue Mitchell, an American trumpeter who had been active in groups led by Paul Williams and Lou Donaldson since the early 1950s, and later recorded many masterpieces with his own group on Riverside in the late 1950s. The album features recordings from a session with Junior Cook (ts), Cedar Walton (p), Gene Taylor (b), and Roy Brooks (ds) at Plaza Sound Studio in New York in 1962. From the mellow grooves of cool jazz to energetic hard bop, this album showcases beautiful ensemble playing. However, the standout track is the waltz jazz piece A1, with its oriental scales and mysterious atmosphere. This reissue, released in 1988 by Ace Records in London for distribution in Europe only, features pressings from Germany.
