This 1985 album by Chick Corea, one of ECM's leading pianists alongside Keith Jarrett, needs no introduction. This chamber music piece was composed in 1982 for the New World Festival held in Miami, commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The album features an orchestral septet with Ida Kavafian (violin), Theodore Arm (violin), Steven Tenenbom (viola), Fred Sherry (cello), Steve Kajala (flute), and Peter Gordon (French horn), presenting a modern classical approach. Produced by Corea himself, with the cooperation of Manfred Eicher, it was released by ECM. This album is a perfect introduction to chamber music through the ECM lens. Highly recommended.
