Formed around lutenist and conductor Ichirō Okamoto, Dansory—an early music ensemble that released Kizuna: Musique Médiévale et de la Renaissance in 1977 and later collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto on The End of Asia in 1982—offered a fresh musical perspective despite their focus on historical performance. In this 1986 album, the group turns to the works of Erik Satie. While Satie’s compositions are most often performed on piano, this remarkable release features interpretations using early instruments and vocals, creating a unique, floating atmosphere distinctive to Dansory. Of particular note is the B-side, which includes a striking rendition of Trois Gymnopédies.
