This is an album released in 1987 by the American saxophonist David Murray, who has been making waves since the mid-1970s with numerous sessions. It features recordings made in a studio in Milan in 1982 with an octet including Henry Threadgill (alto saxophone, flute), Bobby Bradford (trumpet), Lawrence “Butch” Morris (cornet), Craig Harris (trombone), Curtis Clark (piano), Wilber Morris (bass), and Steve McCall (percussion). Tracks like A2, where Clark's elegant piano and Threadgill's organic flute melodies dance alongside a gentle waltz beat, and B1, with its impressive ensemble featuring a Latin-infused rhythm section and colorful leads, showcase Murray's updated sense, shifting from the intense avant-garde jazz of the 1970s to a more contemporary style. It's an excellent album that allows you to feel Murray's refined sensibility. Highly recommended.
A2: Sweet Lovely
B1: Sing Song
