This is the 1987 album by American saxophonist David Murray, who has been showcasing his distinctiveness since the mid-1970s through numerous sessions. The album features an octet including Baikida Carroll (trumpet), Hugh Ragin (trumpet), Craig Harris (trombone), John Purcell (alto saxophone), Adegoke Steve Colson (piano), Wilbur Morris (bass), and Ralph Peterson Junior (drums). It presents innovative arrangements nestled within a stylistically rooted approach reminiscent of blues and New Orleans, delivering excellent performances. While maintaining a different approach, it evokes a similar vision to that of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Unlike some of Murray's other works, it doesn't overly rely on improvisation, emphasizing ensemble playing, which is a commendable aspect of the album.
