Scottish pianist David Newton, known for his work with the Alan Barnes Quartet and The Jazz Renegades, released this album in 1991 on the label run by Linn, the renowned high-end Scottish audio manufacturer, following the previous year’s acclaimed Victim of Circumstance. The album features a trio with Dave Green on bass and Allan Ganley on drums. Centered around Newton’s original compositions, the set also includes covers of Mal Waldron’s “Soul Eyes” and Herbie Hancock’s “Eyes of the Hurricane.” While the music consists mainly of straight-ahead hard bop and ballads, the performances are outstanding throughout. Also notable is the exceptionally smooth and pleasant sound quality.
