An album released in 1977 by American saxophonist Julius Hemphill, who organized the art collective Black Artists Group in St. Louis in 1968, and, alongside Oliver Lake, Luther Thomas, and Hamiet Bluiett, devoted himself to exploring avant-garde jazz. In the 1970s, Hemphill was active in New York’s free jazz scene, participating in numerous sessions. The album features solo performances, where Hemphill layers alto sax, soprano sax, and flute through overdubbing. Notable pieces include tracks like A/B, which centers around mysterious flute melodies. All the tracks are over 20 minutes long, offering a highly immersive listening experience.
