An album released in 1979 by the American pianist Duke Jordan, a master who honed his skills under musicians like Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, and Art Farmer, and adorned the jazz scene from the 1950s onward alongside artists like Sonny Stitt and Stan Getz. This album features recordings from a trio session with Sam Jones (bass) and Al Foster (drums), captured in a New York studio in 1975. Opening with the famous Miles Davis track (A1), Jordan elegantly performs original scores as well as standards by Roger Ramirez, Johnny Green, and Irving Berlin. It’s a work that showcases a consistently calm, straight-ahead bop style throughout, but Jordan’s piano is especially delightful. His rich and graceful performance shines, particularly on slow numbers and ballad tunes. This is the first Japanese pressing, released in the same year as the original Danish version.
