An album released in 1963 by American reed player Eric Dolphy, who had been active at the forefront of the jazz scene since the late 1940s and was also known as a pioneer in using the bass clarinet as a lead instrument in jazz. Released by New Jazz, a subsidiary of Prestige, the album features a quintet with renowned musicians Freddie Hubbard (tp), Jaki Byard (p), George Tucker (b), and Roy Haynes (ds). It includes recordings made in 1960 by Rudy Van Gelder. Track A1 opens with a distinctive theme and progresses briskly with each musician taking solos, while track B1 offers a very pleasant, leisurely groove. Track B2 showcases an organic flute solo. Dolphy's freeform performance shines throughout the album. This is a US reissue from Original Jazz Classics in 1982.
