Released in 2005, this album comes from Hungarian guitarist Ferenc Snétberger, born into a Roma family of Indo-Aryan nomadic roots. After forming the Stendahi Trio in the late ’80s with László Dés and Kornél Horváth, Snétberger established himself as a major voice, and in recent years his work has also appeared on ECM. Here he’s joined by Arild Andersen on bass and Paolo Vinaccia on drums, forming a deeply sympathetic trio. Snétberger’s delicately finger-picked acoustic guitar spins exquisitely beautiful, refined melodies that evoke the boundless world of nomadic tradition—quietly mesmerizing and endlessly rich. The interplay with Andersen and Vinaccia is absolutely first-rate as well. Highly recommended.
