Starting his career as a bassist in the bands of Rosco Gordon and B.B. King, Frank Wright switched to tenor saxophone after encountering Albert Ayler. He collaborated with Larry Young, Noah Howard, Sunny Murray, and others, establishing his own label, Center of the World, and creating acclaimed albums. In this particular album released in 1978 from the French free jazz label Sun Records, Wright featured French pianist Georges Arvanitas, forming a quartet with Jack Samson (b) and Charles Saudrais (ds). The album showcases a diverse range of music, from blues tunes highlighting Wright's distinctive vocals to colorful free jazz incorporating Calypso rhythms, and even ventures into spiritual jazz. The piano solo by Arvanitas on the final track, B4, is especially noteworthy. Highly recommended.
