This album, released in 1971, is by Friedrich Gulda, a renowned pianist and composer from Vienna, Austria, who has been active on the forefront since the early 1950s. Known for his cosmic jazz masterpieces such as "Fata Morgana" (1971) and "Nachricht Vom Lande" (1977), Gulda masterfully blends classical and jazz elements accumulated over his long career. The album features solo piano performances that brilliantly showcase dynamic contrasts, ebbing and flowing like waves, and sometimes pouring down like a torrential rain. While the entire album is exceptional, particularly recommended are C2, a minimalistic piece based on Friz Pauer's score, and D1/D2, which feature Klaus Weiss (drums) and Albert Golowin (vocals) delivering deep, spiritual jazz.
C2: Etude
D2: Duo
