In 1974, while in Japan for a concert, Herbie Hancock recorded this masterpiece solo album exclusively for the Japanese market at the Kosei Nenkin Kaikan Hall in Tokyo. According to the liner notes, it was recorded just before a concert by the Herbie Hancock Group at the same venue. Side A features two acoustic piano solo renditions of classic tunes that Hancock first recorded for the historic album "Maiden Voyage" in 1965, and which have been performed countless times since. However, the highlight of this album is undoubtedly the two tracks on side B. Hancock showcases the newly premiered piece "Nobu" along with the classic "Cantaloupe Island," utilizing a plethora of Arp synthesizers and Fender Rhodes set up on stage to deliver a spacey and exquisite electronic jazz groove. Following this album, Herbie, who was captivated by the latest technology from CBS Sony, would continue to release new recordings specifically for the Japanese market with each visit. Poster is included!
