In 1951, Jimmy Raney, an American guitarist who gained attention by joining Stan Getz's combo and became known as a master of cool jazz, collaborated with his son Doug Raney, who garnered attention in the early 70s for his performances with Al Haig in New York, on a 1979 album. The quartet also features Michael Moore on bass and Billy Hart on drums. The album showcases a vibrant guitar duo on A1 backed by a waltz beat, a beautiful ballad on A2 composed by Billy Strayhorn, and a samba jazz track on B2 where Moore's bass solo and Hart's drumming shine. The father and son duo's similar tones and playing styles complement each other perfectly, delivering a refreshing and light cool jazz performance.
A1: Jonathan’s Waltz
B2: Samba Teekens
