This is the only leader album recorded by American tenor saxophonist Joe Alexander, who played in Tadd Dameron's group in the 1950s. Released in 1960 on Jazzland, it features recordings made in New York City with a quintet including John Hunt (flugelhorn), Bobby Timmons (piano), Sam Jones (bass), and Albert Heath (drums). Alexander's phrasing, imbued with a strong sense of blues feeling, is particularly impressive, and his interplay with Hunt's flugelhorn results in a fantastic, funky hard bop sound. This seems to be a reissue from the late 1980s by Fantasy Records.
