An album released by American saxophonist JR Monterose in 1960 on Jaro International, who had previously worked with Teddy Charles' group in the mid-1950s and later contributed to Blue Note classics by Kenny Dorham and Kenny Burrell. Monterose also released his own leader albums on Blue Note in 1957. This particular album features a quartet with Tommy Flanagan (p), Jimmy Garrison (b), and Pete La Roca (ds). Monterose's saxophone, characterized by a unique dry tone, grooves with intensity on this record. The subdued numbers are especially notable. This is the Japanese limited reissue in 1997 under the <Hyper Magnum Sound LP Collection> by Venus Records.
