Groong Gorong Records/S.U.B. Records (Japan) 2024
SUB.rec-LP-002 (LP+7”) silk screen printed outer sleeve. w/obi, insert.

The best new release for the first half of 2024.

Kadapat is a project by Yogi and Barga based in Bali, Indonesia, discovered by Kasimyn of Gabber Modus Operandi, who gained international recognition through his work with Bjork. This is an analog version of an album they produced in 2022 and released digitally on Gorong Grong Records.
Two young men who have been exposed to the traditions of the Balinese community of Panjar from an early age and have a background in gamelan, which is played in traditional ceremonies and religious rituals, have customized traditional instruments such as the jegog (bamboo zither) and gundel (iron zither) themselves and fused them with electronics to create a neo-world music with originality and impulsive energy rarely seen in recent years. The intense sound of hammer beats, a chemical reaction between metallic and electronic sounds, could be described as electro-body music that has emerged in the modern age, but the texture composed of complex rhythmic developments is truly gamelan, an up-and-coming music that could not have been created anywhere but in Bali. We would love to see it dropped on the dance floor.
The handmade artwork, silkscreen printed with designs by Andy, the head of S.U.B. Records, is also excellent. Outer sleeve is available in black/white. Please note that the request may not be available depending on stock availability.
