This 1970 release brings together Norwegian singer Karin Krog and American tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, whose friendship had flourished since their first collaboration in 1963. Centered on the themes of blues and ballads, the album features recordings made that same year in Oslo with a quartet that included Kenny Drew on piano and organ, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass, and Espen Rud on drums. Highlights include Krog’s blues-inflected interpretation of one of Thelonious Monk’s signature pieces on side A2, and a pensive jazz arrangement of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova classic on A3. The unique character of Krog’s voice, paired with the quartet’s superb performances, makes this album a true standout. This edition is the 1985 Japanese reissue from King Records’ Direct 1800 Series.
