Sunshower
East Wind (Japan) 1979
15PJ-1003 (LP) w/obi.
sleeve : EX-(some light dirts.)

Japanese tenor saxophonist Kosuke Mine, who released his first leader album on Three Blind Mice in 1970 and has since continued to record under his own name as well as perform in various groups while remaining an active force on the front line, issued this album in 1976. This is the 1979 reissue. Featuring Mikio Masuda (keys), Hiroshi Yasukawa (g), Hideaki Mochizuki (b), Zaishu Kurata (ds), and Hideo Miyata (perc). Deeply influenced by John Coltrane, Mine is known for his spiritually charged performances, marked by a straight tone without vibrato that stirs deep emotion. On this record, however, he leans into a groovier sound, from uplifting, Latin-inflected numbers to more floating jazz pieces. A highly impressive work that clearly reflects the influence of Miles Davis’s electric period.
