This 1983 compilation album features duets by Lata Mangeshkar—one of India’s most iconic vocalists, who began her career in the early 1940s(!) and remained active until her passing in 2022—and Hemant Kumar, who was also known for his work as a film producer and music director. The album selects songs from the soundtracks of ten Bollywood films. It showcases the unique characteristics of Indian classical vocal music, including fluid scale transitions and wave-like melodic movement. Mangeshkar’s lustrous falsetto voice and Kumar’s deep, full-bodied tone blend beautifully. Active as a duo since the 1950s, their stunning voices make this a truly enjoyable listening experience.
