This is a solo album released in 1973 by Mal Waldron, an American pianist who has been active at the forefront for nearly 50 years from the 1950s to the early 2000s, and whose astonishing jazz-rock album "The Call", the first album released on the Japo label, is very popular at our store. A personal tribute to the late Billie Holiday, who served as his exclusive piano trio from 1957 until her death in 1959, the album opens with A1, which Waldron composed especially for this album, followed by a number of standard numbers that Holliday sang in his repertoire. Very beautiful performances, and a very moving piece.
