Known as the "First Lady of Swing" in the Australian jazz scene, singer Maree Montgomery released her debut album in 1980. The album was recorded with a quartet led by Australian pianist Serge Ermoll, who also produced the record. Her slightly husky voice delivers seductive scat singing with remarkable vocal skill. The backing performances are equally outstanding, with highlights including the floating groove of track A3 and a cover of the bossa nova classic by Antonio Carlos Jobim on track A5. A hidden gem filled with standout moments—highly recommended.
