An album released in 1983 by female voice performer Meredith Monk, who was born in Lima, Peru and is based in the United States, on ECM's contemporary music line, ECM NEW SERIES. It features a musical theater piece performed with voice improvisers such as Robert Een, Andrea Goodman, and Paul Langland. Track A1, where the organ played by four musicians—Collin Walcott (known for his work with Codona and Oregon), Julius Eastman, Steve Lockwood, and Monk herself—creates a moiré-like texture reminiscent of Terry Riley. Track B2 features Monk playing piano, Mini Moog, and Casio synthesizer. The unique layering of minimalism and voice performance makes this a truly exceptional work.
A1: Turtle Dreams
B2: Engine Steps
