This is a 1983 leader album by Austrian-born jazz trumpeter Michael Mantler, who found success in America. Produced by his wife, pianist Carla Bley, the album features performances by Carla Bley (piano), Mike Stern (guitar), Steve Swallow (bass), Nick Mason (drums), and includes the London Symphony Orchestra. Michael Gibbs handled the arrangements and conducted. This work can be seen as a continuation of his 1978 album 'Movies' and the 1980 album 'More Movies.' The album is characterized by its thrilling string orchestra, minimalist repeating bass lines, and Mike Stern's roaring electric guitar, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of soundtracks for hard-boiled or suspense movies set in 1970s New York. It exemplifies the sound of late-period New York loft jazz.
