An obscure piece has just arrived. This album is a collaboration between the renowned painter Nando Snozzi, originally from Bellinzona, a town in the Italian-speaking region of southern Switzerland where he has been active in painting and theater for over thirty years, and Swiss drummer/percussionist Ivano Torre. It captures a performance that combines live painting with live drumming and percussion, joined by a priest-like figure named Gianmario Arringa who contributes spoken text readings. Torre’s drumming unfolds with shifting intensity, not only on the drum kit but also through an array of resonant objects—both large and small—and even what appear to be circular saw blades, producing an aggressive and highly dynamic soundscape. The result is a striking avant-garde work that recalls Tsutomu Yamashita’s Red Buddha. Since the spoken word passages are relatively sparse, the album works not only as a fascinating listening experience but also as an excellent tool for adventurous DJs.
