Formed in 1950 by leader Toshiyuki Miyama as the precursor group Jive Aces, later renamed in 1958, New Herd is a big band that continues its activities while inheriting Miyama's design even after his passing. In 1970, they released an album featuring pianist Masahiko Satoh. The album unfolds avant-garde big band jazz under a composition where each player starts playing from any section of the score, with up to 20 minutes allowed within the same section, and pauses according to instructions when transitioning to another section. It's fascinating when, at a certain moment, all players unintentionally converge into the same section, becoming the theme. The original pressing is in Master Sonic specification.
