An album released in 1977 by Vietnamese composer Nguyen Thien Dao, who studied music at the Paris Conservatory and the Groupe de Recherches Musicales and began working as a composer in the early 1970s. It includes "Ba Me Viet Nam," performed by Quintette de Cuivres Ars Nova for double bass and instrumental ensemble, "Phu Dong" for percussion and brass quintet, and "Gio Dong" for human voice, performed by Dao himself. Each piece displays a unique musicality that, while employing Western avant-garde techniques, evokes a strong sense of Eastern primitivism throughout. Track A1 even resonates with Don Cherry's Eternal Rhythm. Highly recommended.
