This album was featured in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. Known for introducing synthesizers to Herbie Hancock and for playing a significant role in recordings such as Hancock’s Crossings and Sextant, synthesizer player Patrick Gleeson released this solo album in 1980. On this work, the introduction of a computer-based manipulation system expanded his creative possibilities, resulting in ultra-spacey, cosmic electronic music. Layer upon layer of synth tones—so powerful that even a single note feels like it could launch you into deep space—float over sequential rhythm patterns. The ambient tracks that make use of synthesized imitations of natural sounds are also exceptional.
