This is a 1979 leader album by the Swedish pianist Per Henrik Wallin, who has been active since the mid-1970s. The album features live recordings from The Fasching Club in Stockholm with Torbjorn Hultcrantz (b) and Erik Dahlback (ds) as a trio. The tracks include intense interplay lasting over 19 minutes in A1, and exhilarating, high-speed performances in A2/B2. While Wallin's unique phrasing and sense of flight bear a significant influence from Thelonious Monk, his style also exhibits shades reminiscent of Paul Bley, albeit different in approach. These highly distinctive improvisations showcase Wallin's exceptional talent. Highly recommended.
