A ferocious cult classic from 1972 by Rufus Harley, the world’s first-ever jazz bagpiper, who had been active on the Philadelphia scene since the 1960s. This album stands as one of his most extreme and unforgettable statements. Joining the session is organist Bill Mason, known for his work with Rusty Bryant’s group. What unfolds here is nothing short of wild: from jazz-funk burners driven by tight, hard-hitting funk beats with relentless, snarling bagpipe lines, to psychedelic jazz excursions where bagpipe drones and piercing cries pull you deep into a truly strange, otherworldly zone. This is jazz that sits completely outside the so-called mainstream—an overwhelming display of raw individuality and untamed performance energy. A notorious, historically significant oddball masterpiece that still sounds shockingly dangerous today. Notably, tracks 1, 2, and 7 are exclusive to this CD edition. Absolutely insane—in the best possible way.

Track 2: The Crack
