Sadao Watanabe, one of Japan's foremost jazz saxophonists, and Charlie Mariano, an American saxophonist who has written many masterpieces devoted to Indian and other Oriental folk music, collaborated on this classic album released in 1967. This is a 1977 reissue. The band featured Masabumi Kikuchi (p), Masahiko Togashi (ds), Masanaga Harada (b), Fumio Watanabe (ds) whose are up-and-coming jazz musicians of the time. The theme of this album is the Iberian peninsula with Spain and Portugal, and the album is post-bop in ethnic mode with exotic melodies. In the 60's, Charlie Mariano's melodies evoked an interest in third world folk music. The drumming of a young Masahiko Togashi is also spectacular.

A1: Iberian Waltz
