Sonny Criss, one of the prominent saxophonists representing the West Coast bebop era, made his mark with several jam sessions in California in 1947. From the 1950s onwards, he collaborated with his own orchestra, various groups, and numerous other musicians. In 1956, he released a leader album on Imperial, featuring recordings made that year with a one-horn quartet consisting of Yeatis Clark (piano), LeRoy Vinnegar (bass), and Lawrence Marable (drums). The album includes renditions of standards such as "Summertime," "Memories of You," and "The Man I Love," as well as two compositions by Criss himself. His saxophone, known for its clear tone and emotive melodies, leaves a lasting impression. This reissue was released in 1987 on Century Records in Denmark.
