This 1983 masterpiece by psychedelic guitarist Steve Hillage—who emerged from the Canterbury scene in the UK via Gong—was produced alongside For To Next, an album often (perhaps unfairly) dismissed as a pop-rock misstep. In contrast, this album is a fully instrumental deep trip experience, built entirely around electronic soundscapes. Every track features looping phrases of drums, bass, and synthesizers, over which Hillage’s signature space guitar roars and soars. It's a pivotal work that clearly foreshadows the direction he would later take with System 7. In many ways, it already qualifies as dance music. The balance between punchy low-end and expansive mid-to-high frequencies is outstanding.
