Featured in the guidebook OBSCURE SOUND REVISED EDITION, this masterpiece was released in 1989 on the Italian jazz label Black Saint by the Sun Ra Arkestra, led by Sun Ra—the shamanic musician in communion with the cosmos who began his career in the mid-1950s and had already produced countless masterpieces over nearly four decades. Side A presents swinging modern jazz that returns to Sun Ra’s musical roots, but B2 is on another level entirely. A minimally repeating bass line, small percussion sounds drifting through space, soft horns creating a densely overgrown atmosphere, and Sun Ra’s cosmic keyboard playing swaying weightlessly above it all combine into profoundly deep, inner-space organic cosmic jazz. Original Italian pressing.
