A 1981 release by Tadayuki Naitō, a photographer celebrated for his numerous photo books inspired by Africa and other natural landscapes, and also a prolific field recording artist. Captured between January and March 1981 on the savannas of Kenya, Africa, this album documents unadorned environmental sounds recorded on location. Side A recreates a morning on the savanna, filled with vivid calls of birds and insects, while Side B features a striking scene of a young Maasai cattle herder whistling in imitation of birdsong. The recordings are exceptionally raw, immediate, and lifelike, placing the listener directly within the soundscape. The liner notes include a thoughtful contribution by Naitō himself and are highly recommended reading.
