This album was released in 1981 by Teiko Kikuchi, a koto player who has been active in contemporary Japanese music since the 1950s, when she formed the "Four Members of Traditional Japanese Music". The 17-stringed koto was invented by Michio Miyagi as an instrument to play the low notes of the koto ensemble, and this album expands the possibilities of the koto with compositions by contemporary composers such as Akira Miyoshi, Ryohei Hirose, Toshiya Sukegawa and Yutaka Makino. The result is a wonderful performance, with taut tones and melodies from the low to high registers spreading across the sound field. This is an excellent performance, with the tone and melody spreading across the sound field from low to high frequencies. Highly recommended.
