An album released in 1967 by American reed player Charles Lloyd, who had been active since the early 1960s and had released psychedelic, ethnic jazz works influenced by Eastern philosophy. Performed by a quartet featuring Keith Jarrett (p), Ron McClure (b), and Jack DeJohnette (ds), the album captures a live performance at The Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. While rooted in a post-bop style, the album overflows with ethnic and psychedelic vibes, especially on track A1. Track B2 evokes the spirit of John Coltrane, and Jarrett’s piano solo on A2 is a standout. The passionate performance conveys the atmosphere of the venue brilliantly. On B2, Jarrett also plays the soprano saxophone. DeJohnette’s drumming is also intensely powerful.

A1: Journey Within
B2: Lonesome Child a) Song
