In the late 50's, Joanne Brackeen worked with Harold Land and Dextor Gordon in Los Angeles, and in the early 60's, she moved to New York City, where she played with Freddie McCoy, Art Blakey, Toots Thielemans, Stan Getz, and many other greats. This is her leader album released in 1985. The Trio with Cecil McBee (b) and Al Foster (ds). This refreshingly cool work features elegant renditions of standard numbers, including "Thinking of You" well known as performed by Les Baxter) and "I've Got the World on a String" well known as performed by Louis Armstrong, and as well as Brazilian and pop music. I especially recommend B2, a lighthearted cover of the 1984 hit "Everything She Wants" by Wham!
