An album released by Thelonius Monk in 1956 on Riverside, considered one of the most influential jazz pianists of the 20th century. Recorded with the trio of Oscar Pettiford (b), Kenny Clarke (ds), the album features arrangements of scores by the great jazz pianist Duke Ellington throughout. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, it includes classics like "Sophisticated Lady," "Mood Indigo," "Solitude," and "Caravan." While the performances pay homage to the predecessors, Monk's unique interpretation adds a remarkable touch that is unmistakably his own. This Japanese reissue was released in 1992 under WAVE's <WAVE Jazz Classics>.
