Composer Tom Howard, a Nashville native who debuted in the mid–late 1970s as a folk-rock singer before gradually shifting toward a contemporary/new age aesthetic, released this album in 1985. While the following year’s The Hidden Passage featured superb new age ensemble work—introducing synthesizers alongside lead instruments, percussion, and strings—this earlier set is devoted entirely to solo piano, performed throughout on a Bösendorfer grand made in Austria. Howard delivers a deeply lyrical, introspective program, each piece unfolding like a quietly illuminated inner landscape.
