Released in 1979 as the 11th volume of Victor's "Masterpieces of Contemporary Japanese Music 1500" series, this is a collection of compositions by Toru Takemitsu, a world-class Japanese musician. Performed by the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hiroshi Wakasugi. A1 "Requiem for Strings" is a meditative orchestral work composed in 1957 at the request of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, in which one can experience the flow of sound based on the concept of "beat", which is completely different from the Western method. B1 "Atoll" is a suite consisting of an introduction, interlude, and finale, with a part sung by soprano Mutsumi Masuda, based on a poem written by poet Makoto Ooka. The approach to each piece is different, but you can feel the worldview common to Takemitsu's film music.
