This double album was produced in 1972 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the “Society for the Enjoyment of 20th Century Music,” a group led by Japanese composers Yoshirō Irino and Kunio Toda that actively performed contemporary works. The recordings were taken from concerts held at venues such as the Keidanren Hall and Aoyama Tower Hall, centering around the restaurant Jirō in Shibuya, which served as the group’s base. In addition to works by Japanese composers such as Irino, Toda, Minao Shibata, Yasushi Akutagawa, Saburō Moroi, and Maki Ishii, the performances also include pieces by international composers, particularly from the Second Viennese School, including Arnold Schoenberg, Edgard Varèse, Olivier Messiaen, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Anton Webern.
