Released in 1978 as the eighth installment of the <The Dedication Series>, this album compiles rare recordings by various jazz musicians from the Impulse! label in a two-disc set. The album features recordings by The Cecil Taylor Unit, The Charles Tolliver Quintet, The Grachan Moncur Quartet, and The Archie Shepp Septet. Each track showcases avant-garde, post-bop tendencies that symbolize the jazz scene in 1960s New York. While the entire content is fantastic and provides a valuable experience of the avant-garde post-bop from that era, standout tracks include B1 by the Charles Tolliver Quintet with Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), Cecil McBee (bass), Billy Higgins (drums), and James Spaulding (alto saxophone). Additionally, C1 by the Grachan Moncur Quintet, featuring Hutcherson, McBee, and Beaver Harris (drums), is particularly exceptional.
